Interlude

Old movies sometimes have an “Interlude”, where the movie stops and there is just music and you have time to think about what happened so far. We have our little interlude after reaching Kennedy Meadows. We camp there one night and enjoy the breakfast at the general store. Then, we meet Steve and Vera!

They are spending a week of holiday with their rv at the Lone Pine campground (Lone Pine is a town in the Owens valley east of the pct that we’ll reach again when we hike on and have to leave the mountains to resupply) and have come to get us so we can spend a few days together. As it was last time, it’s just great!!

We pitch our tents in the Lone Pine campground next to the rv and from there, have our adventures. As we are at the base of the highest mountain in the US outside of Alaska, Mount Whitney, we hike up to Whitney Portal from where the climb up to the peak starts. It’s foresty and beautiful, despite of the clouds! And so nice to hike without pack for once, it almost feels like flying up the mountain!😉

We also visit “Mule day” in Bishop further up north – I’ve never seen so many mules in my life!

There, we also meet High Noon and Duncan who already hiked the first part of the Sierra Nevada. Their impression and their advice is very interesting for us…

In the evenings, we have a fire to sit around and talk while relaxing and making smores (marshmallows melted over the fire with cookies, it’s a little hard to describe – very American😄).

So in short, we have three great days! And now, we are ready to enter the mountains…
